The ELA Tutor is responsible for providing academic, workforce, post-secondary and other supports to students through the Community Engagement Center (CEC) at the Resiliency Preparatory Academy (RPA). The ELA Tutor & Mentor will provide students with the skills necessary to complete their high school requirements, while gaining knowledge on how to secure and retain employment within the area’s key industries, and/or successfully transition to any form of post-secondary education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Conducts individualized tutorial sessions for students with English deficiencies; determines what skill areas require additional assistance.
• Mentor students in the areas of workforce development, career pathways, developing life skills and more.
• Mentor students to help them reach their full potential as productive citizens.
• Designs and implements exercises and activities to facilitate student's academic improvements.
• Maintains all records required to document student's attendance and academic progress.
• Determines student's needs for assistance in other areas and refers as necessary.
• Devise and recommend new methods of teaching if the student is having trouble learning through the conventional method.
• Arranges or assists in arranging workshops which are in addition to normal tutorial session, that would provide a more conducive learning environment if needed.
• Maintain regular and frequent contact with appropriate RPA & CEC staff to share information about the student’s challenges, successes, learning disabilities or barriers.
• Participate in all staff meetings and required training sessions, including in-service training, as scheduled.
• Maintain all program and Agency required trainings.

QUALIFICATION

• Associate's degree in the field of Education preferred
• Must demonstrate excellent English skills.
• Experience working with adolescents.
• Understanding of workforce development preferred.
• Must have the ability to maintain positive relationships with students, CEC staff & RPA staff.
• Commitment to quality improvement.
• Must have excellent oral & written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, excel in a fast-paced environment, and meet established strategic goals.
• A qualifying criminal background check, driving record and a valid driver’s license required.
