The Greater Fall River Healthy Families program seeks a Family Support Worker to provide a wide range of activities and services to first time parents both pregnant and parenting, and their infant to promote healthy birth outcomes; achieve optimal health, growth and development in infancy and early childhood; support positive, effective parenting skills and nurturing home environments; prevent child abuse and neglect as well as promote maximum parent education and economic self-sufficiency.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain case load within parameters established by the Children’s Trust.
  • Schedule and provide home visits and supportive services with cultural humility to eligible mothers and fathers based on respective service levels.
  • Develop relationships with participants understanding, respecting and celebrating the diversity of practices, thoughts, and norms of each family member and staff.
  • Support families in developing goal plans that identify family strengths, needs, interests, desired services, goals and objectives, and plans for resolution.
  • Identify with the family strengths that promote a smooth, barrier-free service delivery model.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, diligence and resourcefulness in efforts to service families.
  • Demonstrate the ability to service families during non-standard business hours to meet the needs of families.
  • Assess families’ health and service needs at each visit and take action to endure that families’ needs are met by either direct services or service of referral source or advocate.
  • Provide services that support and educate; promoting positive parent-child interactions, child development through play and assessments.
  • Refer and/or link families to medical providers, food or housing assistance programs, child care, job training programs, family support centers or various community agencies as indicated.
  • Develop a working knowledge of program policies and procedures.
  • Complete documentation and enter all related information into participant data base account to program specifications.
  • Facilitate or participate in development and implementation of parent/child, mother’s and /or father’s groups as assigned.
  • Actively participate in state-wide and program training, in-services, program meetings, and supervision.
  • Keep current in pilots and integrate new or changing models with fidelity to the program.
  • Comply with Massachusetts State Laws regarding child abuse reporting procedures.
  • Volunteer for one People, Incorporated marketing event annually.
  • Participate in two annual outreach events beyond typical work hours.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s Degree preferred, or life experience and/or the minimum of a high school diploma
  • Experience working with or providing services to first time parents and co-parents as well as a willingness to work with culturally diverse populations among program’s target population.
  • Demonstrate non-judgmental acceptance of individual differences and ability to establish trusting relationships.
  • Ability to demonstrate insight to the needs of pregnant and parenting participants and their families, using nonjudgement and strength based approaches.
  • Demonstrate ease in conducting visits within participants’ homes.
  • Knowledge of infant and child development and parent-child attachment.
  • Ability to relate to families from a strength-based model and approach families using a family centered service model.
  • Demonstrate motivation and the ability to implement 5 Protective Factors.
  • Ability to establish and maintain personal/programmatic boundaries while providing supportive services.
  • Ability to comfortably encourage and promote parent choice, family strength, and empowerment.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse communities/families demonstrating respect and work in partnership with families of diverse cultural, ethnic, educational and social backgrounds.
  • Ability to recognize personal biases.
  • Demonstrate willingness to engage in building reflective capacity.
  • Skill in oral and written English communication, organization, observation and listening.
  • Ability to cooperate and work as a team member.
  • Ability to participate and attend state-wide Healthy Families Massachusetts orientation requiring travel, and complete core and topic trainings within one year of employment, along with supervisory observations
  • Demonstrate motivation and the ability to learn and practice basic supportive skills.
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license, as well as a reliable, registered and insured vehicle.
  • Ability to work individually and in a team environment, and communicate effectively in all settings.
  • A qualifying criminal background check and MVR check required.
  • Bi-lingual preferred.
