Camp Jack Counselor - In Training

Pay Stipend

Temporary position - 32 hours.

SUMMARY: The Jack Rua Camp for Children with Type 1 Diabetes (“Camp Jack”) Counselor-in-Training
(C.I.T.) supports camp staff and campers under the guidance of the Camp Counselors, Camp Director
and Camp Leadership Team. This workforce development opportunity is designed to help young leaders
build confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and leadership skills within a supportive camp environment.
Candidates must be between the ages of 14–15 and have attended Camp Jack for at least one prior
season. A Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis is preferred but not required; however, priority consideration will
be given to applicants living with T1D.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Attend mandatory orientation sessions, diabetes training, and educational programming as
required
• Act as a role model for program participants
• Assist with implementation of scheduled camp activities
• Assist camp staff with daily camper support responsibilities, including snack distribution and
helping campers retrieve lunches from designated refrigerated areas when assigned.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized camp environment by completing rotating daily tasks such as trash removal, sanitizing eating and activity areas,
• Monitoring and restocking water stations
• assisting with end-of-day cabin cleanup procedures.
• Enforce program safety rules and maintain a safe and clean environment
• Report all concerns to the Camp Director or Camp Jack Leadership.
• Participate in all program staff meetings and all required training sessions, including Agency and in-service training sessions, as scheduled
• Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to provide current copy of required health records
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with campers and coworkers
  • Ability to follow policy and instruction
  • Must be between the ages of 14-15 years old.
  • Ability to provide a Massachusetts Youth Workers Permit
